Since last we met, your Chapter 296 leaders have been very busy on your behalf.  We have learned a lot, we have represented your interests in several settings, and we have a lot to report to you on a wide range of issues.  This is true every month.

On June 7th, the Union's National Office provided written testimony to the Senate Oversight Subcommittee on National Parks.  The Subcommittee hearing topic was "Moving into a Second Century of Service; Working to Improve the National Park Service Workplace Environment."  The Union stated that adequate funding and staffing would go a long way towards improving the workplace environment.  We will let you know in more detail what the Union said and how it developed its testimony.  This is another indication that the Union cares just as much about NPS as it does about other agencies where NTEU has members.

The move to the Main Interior Building (MIB) is almost totally complete. That said, there are still some things that you need to know about the move and its consequences.  For example, what do you if the office furniture was installed incorrectly or if you want to reconfigure your office. Is the punch list for the move finished?  What do you do if you received lockable filing cabinets with no keys? At the meeting, we will have an information exchange to share what we learned and answer any detailed questions that you might have.  One topic in particular that we will discuss is problems -- at least initially -- with making and holding on to conference room reservations.  We will discuss in some detail the different categories of reservation issues, what are the causes of the problems, and short-term/long-term solutions.

You may have heard that there will be an in-depth analysis of the organizational structure of the Department of the Interior.  Deadlines are approaching,  What does this mean to NPS WASO?  How does this relate to a potential new round of VERA/VSIP (Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment), if at all?  What can the Union do?  We will let you know at Thursday's meeting.

If you want to know about the GSA survey and the NTEU Union survey, we will provide the information.

Traditionally at this time of year, Chapter 296 (the Union) presents certain activities that are beneficial to you and your colleagues.  We will let you know what events are coming.  We think that you will like them.

If there is time, we will provide updates on other topics.  As always, we will provide plenty of time for both 1) your questions and answers and 2) your comments and suggestions.

Because this meeting is designed for WASO staff only, we will monitor the call-ins.
All WASO staff members are welcome! Please join us.  Bring a friend or listen in with one!  Enjoy lunch with your co-workers while you learn the latest news from Chapter 296.
